Game Total Betting Trends Review and NFL Week 17 Forecast

In what seems like a blink of an eye, the final week of the 2012 National Football League regular season is upon us. With this post, we take a look at Game Total betting trends dating back to 2006 NFL season.

Of the 16 games on the Week 17 betting card, ten are packed with playoff implications. Five of the ten games kickoff at 1:00 PM ET on Sunday, December 30, 2012. Week 17 produces very mixed total betting results.

Game Total Wagering Lines and Trends since 2006

Of the 96 games played during Week 17, dating back to the 2006 NFL season, the OVER tickets own a 52-42-2 record. One trend that really sticks out here is the monster totals. Investing in lines of 47 points or more have returned a very profitable 10-3 record since 2006. That number includes a 3-1 mark during the NFL 2011 season in a week where the OVER bets posted a 9-7 record.

Five NFL teams lead the way when it comes to Week 17 scoring

While some teams seemingly take Week 17 off, there are five clubs that regularly produce OVER results during the final week of the season. San Diego leads this group as the Chargers come in with a perfect 6-0 on OVER bets. Arizona, Detroit, Houston, and New England are right behind them with a 5-1 record. Eagles games at 1-5 are the lowest scoring Week 17 contests.

Sportsbook Review NFL Week 17 Over/Under Lines and Prediction

We surf over to the bovada.lv online sportsbook to to check on the NFL Week 17 Over/Under wagering lines. While yours truly isn’t a big fan of Game Total betting, I can’t help but feel that the bookmakers at Bovada have missed the mark on the Denver vs Kansas City contest. The number for this game has been posted at 42 total points and I personally think that’s a little low.

Denver games have gone OVER 42 points 13 times this season including all seven contests played at Sports Authority Field at Mile High. Kansas City games have gone OVER 42 points seven times during NFL 2012. The Broncos have averaged 31.7 PPG at home this season, while the Chiefs have averaged 12.4 PPG in their 2012 road games. Give us the OVER 42 points for a nickle at Bovada!
