It’s official, the most exciting sporting month of the next 4 years is upon us, and the world is thrilled to be experiencing World Cup 2010 in South Africa.

The prestigious soccer tournament kicks off between Mexico and host country South Africa for what will surely be a fantastic first match seeing as neither team is afraid to move forward.

South Africa will want to make sure they don’t become the first ever host country to not make it out of their groups, but most bettors putting their money on this one sadly think they will carry the unfortunate crown.

Mexico, on the other hand, have lost more matches in the history of the World Cup than any other team, for a grand total of 22 defeats.

Regardless, this will be an explosive match, and the world is watching closely.

Although Seabiscuit and Mr. Ed will not be factored into Preakness Stakes betting odds, if the Kentucky Derby was any indication of what type of horse racing odds we are going to see for Preakness Stakes betting, we are all in for one heck of an emotional rollercoaster and maybe even a nice pay day!

This year’s online Preakness Stakes betting offers fierce competition with a lot of new horses in contention, in addition to the regular wallflowers. Although Super Saver looks to be an early favorite in Preakness Stakes betting lines, Caracortado and Hurricane Ike are also getting a lot of online betting action.

Preakness Stakes Online Betting Lines

It’s almost a given that every amateur online horse racing bettor and their mother is going to bet on Super Saver, 2010 Kentucky Derby winner, for the Preakness Stakes. In a post Kentucky Derby celebration, Super Saver’s jockey, Calvin Borel, guaranteed wins at both the upcoming Preakness Stakes and Belmont Stakes, which would make him a bit crazy, and also if it came true it would make him the all-around Triple Crown winner which has only been done 11 times in the last 100+ years.

Preakness stakes betting lines will undoubtedly change leading up to the big day so we suggest you keep checking updated lines at the best online sportsbooks to compare Preakness Stakes betting lines and Triple Crown bonuses.

Sports Betting Tip # 5

Know and Compare Sports Odds

Many people think that betting on sports is all about picking the correct team. But the odds you are receiving on your money affect both winnings and losses. The odds on your money might be different depending on the type of wager you place and the online sportsbook you use. Wagers like parlays and teasers offer different rewards and risk. Also, some books adjust the juice on certain games that will directly affect the odds on your money.

Parlays, Moneylines, Teaser, Oh My!

There are many types of wagers that you can make while placing bets on sporting events. While parlays, moneylines and teasers are only a few examples wagers that can be made, understanding the odds before you place the bets is important.

Winning a four-team parlay is always nice with odds around 12:1. But sportsbooks aren’t giving you those odds to be nice. They know that the more plays you hook together decrease the chances of winning.

Sportsbooks also don’t offer teasers to be nice. Teasers offer the illusion that they are an easier bet to win because you get to move the pointspread in your favor. The downside is that sportsbooks charge higher juice on a losing teaser.

It is important to understand the odds and return of investment on the wager type because losing can hurt your bankroll more than winning will help.

Juice and Pointspreads

One strategy that many sportsbooks use to even out their risk on any given game is to increase the amount of the juice instead of moving the line. This is something that escapes many online gamblers.

A prospective gambler might first look at this as a gift because other sportsbooks bumped the line. However, if you look at the amount that you can lose the risk/reward ratio is actually better at the sportsbook that bumped the line – a winning wager will pays the same, but a lost will cost more at one sportsbook.

Because of this practice it is necessary to have multiple sportsbook accounts. The pointspread is after all an opinion designed to even out the action on all possible outcome of a sports event. This creates a disparity from one sportsbook to another and opens a marketplace for the online sports bettor.

By having accounts at multiple sportsbooks, you will be able to shop for the best pointspread value for your wager. This is can increase the odds on a payout while protecting yourself from unnecessary risk to your bankroll.

Advantages of Sign Up Bonuses

The World Wide Web is littered with online sportsbooks. And they all are competing for your business. All of these companies competing for your business puts you, the internet sports bettor, in a great position.

Sportsbook Sign Up Bonus

Online sportsbooks want your money and will pay you to place your wagers at their sites. To entice sports gamblers online sportsbooks offer special sign-up bonuses on initial deposits. These bonuses provide the online sports bettor with some pleasant advantages.

The first advantage is free money. Sportsbooks usually offer deposit bonuses on your initial deposit of 20% or more. Though there are requirements before you can withdraw the bonus money, this is free money that can be added to your bankroll.

Another advantage to sign-up bonuses is special contests that are offered by the sportsbooks. March Madness brackets, Super Bowl block pools and other free contests are often offered to players by their sportsbooks. If you win any of these contests the prizes will be added to your account.

Best Sports Betting Bonuses

Most bettors don’t only use one sportsbook for their gambling needs. And this is great since it allows the sports bettor to sample the best sports betting bonuses online.

This allows the gambler to shop for the best pointspread and odds available. Having multiple sportsbooks accounts allow you to obtain more free money in sign-up bonuses. This all adds up and increases the amount of your total bankroll.

With competition high and sportsbooks all competing for your business, you are the real winner. Be sure to research multiple sportsbooks and their sign-up bonuses, make a list of the best bonuses and open accounts. By taking advantage of the competing sportsbooks, you can be the real winner and earn free money and many other added bonuses throughout the years.

Sports Betting Scams

A reputable sportsbook has been online and has a good business record. The first thing you want to look at is how long the sportsbook has been in operation. The NFL season is the time of the year when most fly-by-night operations open. These sportsbooks have been coined as “deposit only” sportsbooks because after you make a deposit they try every tactic to make sure you never withdraw any winnings.

Many of the tactics that scam sportsbooks use are the same as reputable sportsbooks and this can make it difficult to differentiate between the two. Only stable sportsbook are able to properly operate while offering special bonuses. The following highlights the trouble areas for these fly by night sportsbooks. In the long run the most seasoned sportsbook will be the most reputable and able to back up its offers and bonuses.

Be wary of new sportsbooks offering deposit bonuses of 25% or more. This is a flawed business model that is typical of an underfunded sportsbook. They offer incredible bonuses to increase their player volume, but because these sportsbooks use much of their capital to provide the deposit bonuses they don’t have the money for their customers’ payout requests.

Another sign of shady sportsbooks are low juice offerings and soft pointspreads. This is a sign that the operation has a low volume of customers and action. They use this tactic to entice players to sign up but don’t have the income to pay their customers when requested.

There are many reputable sportsbooks on the internet. Doing a little homework prior to opening account and making a deposit can save you anguish and money in the future.

Sports Betting Tip # 3:

Drunk Bets Are Bad Bets… …usually.

Sports and alcohol have always been a good mix, especially while enjoying the game. While there is absolutely nothing wrong with responsibly enjoying a game, doing so irresponsibly during the handicapping process can cost you in the end.

Think about it. Casinos all over give away alcohol to their patrons. Casinos do not give away free alcohol just to be nice; it is part of their business model. We all know that alcohol is a social lubricant and will decrease reasoning and impulse control in large quantities. All gambling establishments are betting on this.

Drunken Bets

Just like playing poker or blackjack, betting on sports also requires a clear head to be successful. All handicappers perform research on each match-up that they are interested on placing a wager. Being intoxicated during the handicapping process could negatively affect the outcome.

Having a buzz during the handicapping process could allow you to misconstrue stats and facts of a match-up. Though the math that is often involved in handicapping is typically elementary, being under the influence can easily cause a mistake and result in a loss that wouldn’t have been made if sober.

Problem Gambling Stories

Every handicapper discards a pick for one reason or another. However, after drinking your reasoning and control is impaired which can allow you to be easily swayed. This decrease in judgment opens up many people to do many things they wouldn’t do when sober. This includes placing wagers.

Successful gambling takes discipline and proper money management, and this requires a clear head. While drinking in moderation is fine, and studies have shown it to be beneficial to your health, don’t start the party until turn your computer off and sit down to watch your games. Gambling is a world of highs and lows. Not allowing alcohol to affect your decisions while gambling will help decrease many of those lows.

Sports Betting Bankroll Management

It doesn’t matter what sport you are wagering on, sports gambling is a marathon. With sports seasons lasting six months or more, it is easy to lose a lot of money.

It has been said that two percent of gamblers are long term winners. Many might think this is because that most gamblers have bad information and make bad picks. It is actually a lack of discipline and money management that excluded the majority of the betting public from celebrating a profitable season.

Money management is the most important and basic principle all gamblers should be following. Your bankroll, betting units and size of your card are all aspects of money management.

Sports Betting Bankroll

First you need to determine the size of your bankroll. Your bankroll is the total amount of money that you set aside for the season. This money should not be associated with any necessary living expenses such as utility bills, rent or mortgage and won’t affect your standard of living if completely exhausted.

The size of your bankroll directly determines the size of your wagers, or unit. A unit is typically 5% of your bankroll, though you could make it bigger or smaller depending on how aggressive or conservative you like to bet.

Bankroll Management Strategy

Now that you have your unit size, you will place this amount on each and every game that you decide to wager. This helps limit the amount of juice that you pay on losing wagers. You also want to limit the amount of games you are playing. Because the odds of winning decreases with the amount of games you play, you only want to play 2-5 games a day.

A good oversight rule is never to risk half of your bankroll or more at any one given time.

Being a winning gambler isn’t impossible. It only takes discipline and money management. By following these simple principles of money management, you will maximize your profits and minimize your risk.

As the trumpets blare down and the gold and black confetti is picked up following the New Orleans Saints 31-17 victory in Super Bowl XLIV, what is left for online sports bettors is a mixed bag of defeats and some surprising betting victories.

As the trumpets blare down and the gold and black confetti is picked up following the New Orleans Saints 31-17 victory in Super Bowl XLIV, what is left for online sports bettors is a mixed bag of defeats and some surprising betting victories.

With over 60% of online bettors choosing the Indianapolis Colts to cover the underdog Saints by at least 5 points, Vegas and popular online sportsbooks such as Bodog and Sportsbook.com came out on top, however over 70% of bettors who took the Moneyline went with the Saints, balancing out some of the action.

The biggest surprise for many online sports bettors was the game going UNDER the total points of 56.5. A large share of the betting public jumped on this line (even though it was rather high) and took a wallop as the total points came to 48. The great thing about sports betting, however, is there’s always another chance to come back on top. Bettors who weren’t taken to the cleaners can be thankful that this month brings so many big sporting events such as NASCAR, NBA betting and MMA tickets while everyone’s favorite wagering time – NCAA Basketball’s March Madness – is just over a month away.

For those of you who are Colts fans, there are silver linings in the gut-wrenching loss. In one of the more popular prop bets, Peyton Manning went over the 300 yards passing mark (netting savvy bettors a decent -165) while Drew Brees went under the 300 yards passing mark, shocking the betting public who thought he was a lock to go over (bettors who chose Brees to go under were handsomely rewarded at +130). And while the party in the Bayou keeps going on all night long, the betting public remains unconvinced – Indianapolis is already a 13/2 favorite to win Super Bowl XLV with San Diego next at 8/1. The new Super Bowl Champions are packed amongst a few other teams at 10/1, although given the scene on Bourbon Street it will probably be around 5 months before they even notice.

To be clear, Super Bowl XLIV will be a huge betting day for sports betting, both in Vegas and for the online sportsbooks too. Both the Indianapolis Colts and New Orleans Saints have the tools to ensure victory; little wonder then that the action has been fairly evenly placed on both sides and that the Colts have remained a single-score favorite.

Bodog Online Sportsbook currently places Indianapolis as 5-point favorites in SuperBowl XLIV – a very appealing line. The Total points bet has remained relatively constant, but there has been some movement, from an opening line of 55-points to 56.5 on leading sportsbooks such as Sportsbook.com, due to the high scoring nature of both teams. However, as any savvy online sports bettor knows SuperBowl Sunday offers so much more than just straight up game wagers.

Super Bowl “Prop” bets have exploded as popular options for old and new gamers alike and can often be more profitable than betting on the game itself! The leader in Prop bets, Bodog.com currently has over 165 prop bets for you to wager on from the simple – who will win Super Bowl MVP (Peyton Manning leads the way with a 4/7 payoff) to the amazingly specific – how many tackles and assisted tackles will Colts linebacker Clint Session have (if you think more than 6.5 you could make some good coin).

The SuperBowl is always a big boon to online sportsbooks and while most customers will choose the straight up bet, some sportsbooks such as BetUS.com give you the ability to move the line around from its base line of Colts by 4.5 – all the way to Indianapolis by 17.5. So if you feel like Indianapolis will blow the Saints out of the water, then you can make a lot of money right off the bat. Then again, if you think New Orleans will lose by such a large margin, you might want to get a head x-ray first!

This upcoming Super Bowl XLIV promises to be a great game featuring two explosive offenses and the two best quarterbacks in recent memory. Take the time to do your research on which sportsbook offers the best lines and best betting options for you, but don’t forget that Super Bowl Sunday should be a fun betting experience as well. So why not lay a few dollars down on which team will challenge the referee’s play call first, or whether the coin toss will be heads or tails – and yes, the payout for head and tails is equal, even if we all know that “tails never fails”.
