AAC Contest Friday Night Pits Southern Methodist Against Rutgers

There aren’t too many rivalry games on the slate for NCAA men’s basketball on Friday night, which is why we have chosen to bet on the game featuring Southern Methodist and Rutgers. The Mustangs are sitting close to the top of the AAC and the Scarlet Knights are closer to the bottom, which is why we will back Southern Methodist tonight even though they are on the road in snowy New Jersey.

Southern Methodist climbing the national rankings

Coming into this game, the Mustangs are ranked number 23 in the country and are closing in on the top spot in the AAC. They are only three games behind the conference-leading Cincinnati Bearcats, but still have quite a bit of work to do. With March Madness quickly approaching, the Mustangs need every win they can get, especially ones on the road against their conference rivals. The Mustangs have enjoyed a turnaround the past two seasons under Hall of Fame coach Larry Brown.

Rutgers hopes to secure conference win at home

This game is being played a day late following a massive snowstorm on Thursday in New Jersey. Rutgers has dug out from under the snow, but can they dig out of the hole they put themselves in with poor play this season? The Scarlet Knights are 10-14 overall and just 4-7 in the AAC. They are right below the middle of the pack in the standings, which means they most likely do not make the tournament this season. How can Rutgers win this game? They need plenty of offense and their defense needs to show up.

Over at BetOnline.ag, the oddsmakers like the Mustangs to win this game over the Scarlet Knights by at least eight points. This line is favorable, but we like the money line much better. Drop 15 percent of your bankroll on Southern Methodist and the -365 money line on the road.
