Toronto vs. Saskatchewan Canadian Football League Week 3

An East vs. West battle opens the Canadian Football League Week 3 action as Toronto hots Saskatchewan tonight. The Grey Cup Champion  Argonauts are 1-1 while the Roughriders are 2-0 and look fantastic.

While it’s still early in the CFL season, it’s not a stretch to envision these two clubs playing for Grey Cup 101 in November. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 PM ET on Thursday, July 11, 2013, from the Rogers Center.

Roughriders impressive 2-0 CFL 2013 start isn’t a fluke

CFL fans remember the hype that was sprouting in Saskatchewan after the Roughriders opened the 2012 season with a 3-0 record. That mark quickly fell to 3-5 as the Riders dropped their next five contests. With Grey Cup 101 slated for Mosaic Stadium at Taylor Field come November, Rider Nation is pumped up even more this year. The prospect of Gang Green capturing a Championship on their home turf has been buoyed by the Riders impressive 2-0 start during CFL 2013 action.

Wins over Edmonton (39-18) and bitter rival Calgary (36-21) leaves the Roughriders as the only undefeated team in the CFL. After completely dominating the Eskimos in Week 1, the Riders were down 21-14 at halftime against the Stampeders at Mosaic Field last week. That’s when the Riders defense flexed their muscles and shut out the Stamps in the second half while the offense posted 19 points keep Saskatchewan (2-0) undefeated. We like their chances of posting a 3-0 record.

Grey Cup Champion Argonauts open CFL title defense with mixed results

Defending a Championship, in any professional sport, is never an easy task. Dating back to the 1983 CFL season Toronto (’96 & ’97) and Montreal (’09 & ’10) are the only teams to capture back to back Grey Cup titles. Toronto has looked rather ordinary through the first two weeks of their Championship defense as they’ve opened the 2013 CFL season with a 1-1 record. The Argonuats outscored Hamilton 14-3 in the second half to defeat the Tiger-Cats 39-34 in their home opener.

Toronto then travelled to their house of horrors – BC Place in Vancouver – and dropped a 24-16 decision to the British Columbia Lions. That result should not be a surprise to Argo fans as the Boatmen haven’t beat the Lions in BC since the 2004 CFL season. Sportsbook.com bookmakers have posted the Grey Champs as slim -2 (-110) home favorites ATS and -130 S/U. The Riders are +2 (-110) ATS and +110 S/U while the Over/Under is set at 54.5 points – kinda low we think!

Sportsbook Review Prediction: Roll with Rider Nation and the +110 ML price!
