Blues vs. Red Wings: NHL Game Day Preview

Detroit and St. Louis are meeting for the second time this season. The Blues won the first game of this NHL Western Conference Central Division rivalry, by a 2-1 final score, back in November.

St. Louis (14-9-3) has been on quite a roll since they hired Ken Hitchcock as their new bench boss. Struggling with a 4-7 record prior to Hitchcck taking the reigns, the Blues have gone 8-2-3 over their last 13 games. The bloom may be off the rose as the Blues have lost two straight.

Detroit (16-8-1) has been streaky all season. The Wings have had seven, five, and four game winning streaks, along with a season high six game losing streak that was sandwiched in between. Detroit had their seven game win streak snapped with 4-2 road loss to Colorado on Sunday.

When scanning the betting lines for tonight’s Red Wings versus Blues match-up, we were pleasantly surprised to find Detroit with a plus number at the BetOnline.com Sportsbook. It seems like a gift, something we are always leery of, but we jump on this NHL 3 Way betting line tonight.

NHL Puck Betting Odds Red Wings vs Blues

Over the years, this NHL Western Conference rivalry has always been a good one. It heats up even more tonight as the Blues trail the Wings by just two points for second place in the NHL Central Division. Detroit is three points back of the Chicago Blackhawks for first overall in the division.

When researching this contest, several things stood out for us. Not the least being that Detroit is rolling along at 19.4% on the power play – good for eight in the league. St. Louis is singing the Blues as they sit dead last in the NHL with a 9.2 PPP when they have a man advantage.

Another stat that jumped out at us is the goal scoring for both teams. The Wings have a +19 in GF/GA differential, while the Blues are sitting with a +5 scoring differential.

Detroit has three or more goals in seven of their last eight games. St. Louis allowed a season high five goals, to the Blackhawks at home, during a 5-2 loss on Saturday night.

While we don’t see a blowout (the Blues own a team 2.02 GAA), we like the Wings to win here!
