Pittsburgh Penguins vs Buffalo Sabres: NHL Matinee Betting

Not big fans of All-Star games, we are looking away from the NBA mid-season “classic” (though we like the Eastern Conference) as we turn to the National Hockey League for our daily free pick prediction.

Pittsburgh and Buffalo meet in matinee action today as puck drop for the Penguins vs Sabres tilt is slated for 12:30 PM ET on Sunday, February 17, 2013, from the First Niagara Center in Buffalo, New York.

Pittsburgh Penguins: Back in stride after minor slide

Recent back-to-back loses, by a 3-1 count to the New Jersey Devils, have proved to be not much than a blip on the radar for Pittsburgh as the Penguins have now won two straight games by a 7-2 combined count. While wins over the Senators and Jets aren’t anything to get excited about, the Penguins (10-5-0) get a similar opponent in the Sabres today. We expect a ton of goals here.

Buffalo Sabres: Struggling in last place in the NHL Northeast Division

Losers of nine of their last thirteen games, the Buffalo Sabres have earned 13 of a possible 30 points early in the 2013 NHL season. Goaltending has been a problem for the Sabres as Buffalo has allowed 50 goals in 15 games – good for second worst in the Eastern Conference (Florida 53). The road to revival doesn’t get any easier with the high flying Penguins soaring into town today.
