NHL Playoff Betting Philadelphia Flyers vs. Pittsburgh Penguins

Two teams that don’t care for each other, and whom are both considered as Stanley Cup contenders clash as Pittsburgh and Philadelphia collide to get the first round of the 2012 NHL playoffs underway.

What’s not to like about the Battle for Pennsylvania? The Penguins (51 wins) finish fourth overall in the league with 108 points while the Flyers (47 wins) were two spot down with 103 points to finish sixth overall.

Superstars Crosby & Malkin Lead Pittsburgh

While it’s a shame that one of these two clubs will be punted from the playoffs, this Penguins vs. Flyers match-up is epic playoff hockey. Pittsburgh is lead by Evgeni Malkin who lead the league with 109 points during NHL 2011-12. Sidney Crosby is healthy, rested, and always dangerous.

Despite missing 60 games during the regular season, Sid the Kid still managed to post 37 points in 22 games. Pro-rated over an 82 game season Crosby would have netted 138 points this season.

Philadelphia Counters With Giroux, Hartnell & Jagr Up Front

While the Flyers can’t match the scoring punch of the ‘Pens, they do have a balanced attack. Led by Claude Giroux, rock solid production from Scotty Hartwell, along with a rejuvenated Jaromir Jagr, the Flyers had seven skaters with 47 points or more during the regular season.

This series will come down to which team gets the better goaltending. Marc-Andre Fluery was a huge spark for the Penguins as he registered 42 wins in 64 game starts. Ilya Bryzgalov recorded 33 victories in 59 starts for Philadelphia. We see the playoff savvy Fluery winning that battle.
