2010 World Hockey Summit Meeting

The who’s who of international hockey gathered in Toronto, Canada, at the end of August for a World Hockey Summit Meeting to dissect the current state of hockey.

In attendance were NHL Deputy Commission Bill Daly, Hockey Canada President Bob Nicholson, USA Hockey Executive Director Dave Ogrean and the list goes on of hockey dignitaries from around the world.

Through seminars, presentation and discussion, the overwhelming theme of the summit was to promote global teamwork in promoting the growth of hockey all around the world. During the talks, many ex-NHL players shared their perspectives and ideas.

The summit was broken into 4 categories; player skill development, junior development in the world, Vancouver 2010 Olympics evaluation, and growing participation in hockey.

For those of you who follow hockey you will appreciate that there are summits like this in place ensuring the sustainable growth of the game. Instead of gathering to discuss rule changes, disciplinary measures, how to spin bad publicity, or ways to make the sport more attractive to the mainstream; these great hockey minds gathered to come up with ways to work together so they can promote the game the way it is.

The 2010 World Hockey Summit Meeting gets two thumbs from me; one for working together globally and the other for wanting to grow the game just the way it is.
