Who’s Slumping In 2010 Major League Baseball

Since the dawn of time, or at least the begging of Major League Baseball, there have always been hot streaks and slumps. For the number of hot streaks I have witnessed, I have seen just as many slumps.

From heavy favorites like the New York Yankees going on 10 game losing slumps, to underdogs like the padres going on 15 game winning streaks, I have seen it all.

For hot streaks you can almost always see them coming because it is something that players practice and prepare for, but nobody can prepare themselves for a slump or possibly know when it is coming, which is the case for the Los Angeles Dodgers this year.

After last season you would think that the Joe Torre led Dodgers would make a run for the National League West Division title this year considering they already had Manny Ramirez hitting and rumors were circulating that they were going to trade for Roy Halladay to help them with their pitching. Unfortunately for Dodgers fans, things did not go as planned.

Now there are rumors that Joe Torre is going to be dismissed at the end of this season, Manny Ramirez signed with the Chicago White Sox, and instead of trading for Halladay, the Dodgers signed washouts Russ and Ramon Ortiz. There is a good chance you may have never heard of the Ortiz pitchers, and that is no coincidence.

Many fans and critics believe the slump that the Los Angeles Dodgers are going through is a bi-product of the McCourt family’s divorce. The McCourt family who owns the Dodgers, is currently going through a dragged out divorce.

Off field distractions have always been a part of baseball and regardless of what the effected parties have said, they have always been negatively impacted by the off field distractions.

Hopefully the LA Dodgers can put their woes behind them and get back to last year’s winning ways or else the future does not look good for them.
